Description
Crispy, golden-brown Amish Onion Fritters are a classic comfort food appetizer or side dish. Made with simple ingredients like onions, flour, and eggs, these fritters are a delicious taste of the heartland.
Ingredients
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 egg
– 1/2 cup milk
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. – Separate the onion slices and place them in a large bowl.
2. – In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, egg, milk, salt, and pepper until a smooth batter forms.
3. – Dip the onion slices into the batter, coating them evenly.
4. – In a large skillet, heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
5. – Working in batches, fry the battered onion slices for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
6. – Drain the fried fritters on a paper towel-lined plate.
7. – Serve the Amish Onion Fritters warm, with your favorite dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
For best results, slice the onions as thinly as possible. The thinner the slices, the crispier the fritters will be. You can also experiment with different types of onions, such as sweet Vidalia or red onions.
