Description

Baked Scotch Pie is a savory Scottish classic featuring a flaky pastry crust filled with a rich, meaty filling. This easy recipe delivers an authentic taste of Scotland in every bite.

Ingredients

– 1 lb ground beef

– 1 onion, finely chopped

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tsp dried thyme

– 1 tsp dried rosemary

– 1 tsp salt

– 1/2 tsp black pepper

– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

– 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

1. – Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. – In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

3. – Stir in the thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Let the filling cool slightly.

4. – Unfold the puff pastry sheet and place it in a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it into the sides.

5. – Spoon the beef filling into the pastry-lined dish.

6. – Roll out the remaining puff pastry to fit over the top of the pie. Crimp the edges to seal.

7. – Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

8. – Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg.

9. – Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.

10. – Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a sprinkle of smoked paprika to the filling. Serve with a side of mashed potatoes or peas for a traditional Scottish meal.
