Ingredients
– 5 cups peeled, sliced apples
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1 cup old-fashioned oats
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. – In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
3. – Transfer the apple mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish.
4. – In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, oats, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
5. – Sprinkle the oat crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
6. – Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
7. – Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
For a more decadent version, drizzle the warm apple filling with caramel sauce before adding the crumble topping. Chopped pecans or walnuts can also be added to the crumble for extra crunch.
