Description

Warm, cheesy, and bursting with fresh herbs, this Cheddar and Herb Soda Bread is a comforting homemade classic that comes together in just 30 minutes. Perfect for cozy nights, easy weeknight dinners, or special occasions.

Ingredients

– 3 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 teaspoon baking soda

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed

– 1 1/4 cups buttermilk

– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

– 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, or chives)

Instructions

1. – Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. – In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

3. – Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. – Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until a shaggy dough forms.

5. – Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly, about 30 seconds, until it comes together.

6. – Pat the dough into a round 1-inch thick loaf and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.

7. – Sprinkle the top with the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped herbs.

8. – Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

9. – Allow the bread to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, use cold butter and buttermilk. The cold ingredients help create a fluffier, more tender soda bread. Customize the herbs to your liking – try a blend of rosemary, thyme, and chives.
