Ingredients

– 1 whole fresh fish (such as sea bass or tilapia), scaled and cleaned

– 2 tablespoons soy sauce

– 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

– 1 teaspoon sesame oil

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and julienned

– 2 green onions, sliced

– Chopped cilantro for garnish

Instructions

1. Pat the fish dry and make 3-4 diagonal slits on each side.

2. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.

3. Place the fish in a heat-proof dish and pour the soy sauce mixture over the top, making sure to get some into the slits.

4. Set up a steamer and bring the water to a boil. Place the dish with the fish in the steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

5. Transfer the steamed fish to a serving platter and garnish with the sliced green onions and chopped cilantro.

Notes

For best results, use a whole fish that is fresh and of high quality. You can also experiment with different types of fish or add additional aromatics like lemongrass or star anise. Serve the steamed fish immediately for maximum flavor and texture.
