Ingredients
– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
– 2 tbsp unsalted butter
– 4 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
– 8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
– 2 garlic cloves, minced
– 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
– 1/4 cup dry white wine
– 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
– Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. – Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll out the puff pastry and press it into a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Prick the bottom with a fork and bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden.
2. – In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown.
3. – Add the sliced mushrooms and garlic to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender. Deglaze the pan with the white wine and cook for 2-3 minutes until the liquid is mostly evaporated.
4. – Spread the caramelized onion and mushroom mixture evenly into the pre-baked tart shell. Top with the shredded Gruyere cheese.
5. – Bake the tart for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can use a mix of Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses. Garnish with fresh thyme for a beautiful presentation.
