Description

Indulge in the rich flavors of French onion soup in these easy-to-make, mouthwatering sausage rolls. The combination of savory sausage and caramelized onions baked in flaky puff pastry makes for a delicious weeknight meal or perfect party appetizer.

Ingredients

– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

– 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed

– 2 medium onions, thinly sliced

– 2 tbsp butter

– 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

– 1 tsp dried thyme

– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. – Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. – In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until caramelized and golden brown.

3. – Stir in the balsamic vinegar and thyme, then season with salt and pepper. Set aside to cool slightly.

4. – Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border.

5. – Crumble the sausage over the onions, then roll the pastry into a tight log, starting from the long side. Pinch the seam to seal.

6. – Cut the log into 1-inch pieces and place them seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

7. – Bake for 18-22 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and the sausage is cooked through.

8. – Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

– For a richer flavor, use a combination of sweet and hot Italian sausage.

– Substitute shredded Gruyere or Swiss cheese for an extra cheesy version.

– Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for a quick snack.
