Description
These crispy, golden fried feta rolls are a delightful appetizer or snack, with a sweet and spicy chili honey dipping sauce that perfectly complements the savory feta filling.
Ingredients
– 8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
– 1 package phyllo dough, thawed
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1/4 cup honey
– 2 tablespoons chili garlic sauce
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a bowl, mix the crumbled feta cheese, lemon juice, oregano, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
3. Lay a sheet of phyllo dough on a clean work surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with more butter.
4. Cut the layered phyllo dough into 4-inch squares. Place a heaping teaspoon of the feta mixture onto the center of each square.
5. Fold the dough over the filling to create a triangle shape, then continue rolling it up into a small cylinder. Brush the outside with more melted butter.
6. Arrange the fried feta rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7. Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
8. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, chili garlic sauce, and lemon juice to make the chili honey dipping sauce.
9. Serve the warm fried feta rolls with the chili honey sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
– For a crispier texture, you can fry the rolls in hot oil instead of baking them.
– Experiment with different cheese fillings, such as a blend of feta and cream cheese.
– The chili honey sauce can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
