Ingredients
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1/4 cup molasses
– 2 large eggs
– 1 tablespoon ground ginger
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
– 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
For the Frosting:
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 2 cups powdered sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 tablespoon heavy cream (or milk)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Whisk in the molasses, eggs, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves until well blended.
4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.
7. In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter for the frosting until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla and heavy cream (or milk) until well combined.
8. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
For a more pronounced gingerbread flavor, you can increase the amount of ground ginger to 1 1/2 teaspoons. You can also add a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or pecans on top of the frosted brownies for a delightful crunch.
