Description
Indulge in the captivating flavors of Moroccan Chicken-Stuffed Msmen, a delightful fusion of tender chicken, aromatic spices, and flaky, buttery flatbread. This quick and easy recipe delivers an authentic taste of Morocco in every bite, perfect for a satisfying meal or appetizer.
Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 cup warm water
– 1/4 cup melted butter, plus more for brushing
– 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
– Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the warm water and melted butter, and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chicken, onion, and garlic until the chicken is cooked through and the onion is translucent, about 8-10 minutes. Add the cumin, paprika, cinnamon, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and set aside.
3. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a thin, round flatbread, about 6 inches in diameter.
4. Spoon the chicken mixture onto the center of each flatbread. Fold the dough over the filling, creating a half-moon shape, and press the edges to seal.
5. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Brush the top of the msmen with melted butter and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and flaky.
6. Serve the Moroccan Chicken-Stuffed Msmen warm, garnished with fresh herbs if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
For a deeper flavor, marinate the chicken in a mixture of lemon juice, olive oil, and Moroccan spices for 30 minutes to an hour before cooking. Serve the msmen with a side of couscous or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
