Description

These Moroccan Honey Almond Cigars are a delightful and easy-to-make appetizer that combines the rich flavors of honey, toasted almonds, and warm spices. Flaky phyllo dough is filled with a fragrant almond mixture and baked to golden perfection, resulting in a bite-sized treat that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients

– 8 sheets phyllo dough

– 1 cup raw almonds, finely chopped

– 1/4 cup honey, plus more for drizzling

– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

– 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

– Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a bowl, combine the chopped almonds, 1/4 cup of honey, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to coat the almonds.

3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean work surface and brush it lightly with water. Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush it with water as well. Repeat this process with the remaining 6 sheets of phyllo dough, creating a stack of 8 sheets.

4. Cut the phyllo stack in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 6 equal pieces, creating 12 rectangles.

5. Place a heaping tablespoon of the almond mixture near the bottom of each phyllo rectangle. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold the sides in and continue rolling tightly into a cigar shape.

6. Place the Moroccan Honey Almond Cigars seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown and crispy.

8. Remove the cigars from the oven and drizzle them with additional honey, if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

For a crunchier texture, toast the almonds before chopping them. You can also try different nut variations, such as pistachios or walnuts. These cigars can be made in advance and reheated in the oven before serving.
