Description

Indulge in the classic taste of New Orleans Beignets with this easy-to-make Cafe du Monde Copycat recipe. Enjoy these pillowy-soft, golden-fried treats dusted in a generous coating of powdered sugar.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/4 cup granulated sugar

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

– 3/4 cup warm milk

– 1/4 cup warm water

– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

– Vegetable oil for frying

– Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

2. In a separate bowl, combine the warm milk, warm water, and melted butter.

3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.

4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6. Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness.

7. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.

8. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.

9. Working in batches, fry the beignets for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

10. Remove the beignets from the oil and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

11. Dust the warm beignets generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, serve the beignets as soon as they are fried. The dough can be made in advance and refrigerated for up to 3 days before frying. Enjoy the beignets with a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate for the authentic Cafe du Monde experience.
