Description

These stunning Rose-Shaped Potato Gratin Stacks are a delightful way to elevate your potato side dish. Thinly sliced potatoes are arranged into beautiful rose shapes and baked to perfection with a creamy, cheesy gratin topping. The result is a visually impressive and delicious potato dish that’s sure to impress your guests.

Ingredients

– 3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 1/8-inch thick)

– 2 cups heavy cream

– 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese

– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme, plus more for garnish

– Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Arrange the potato slices in a circular pattern, starting from the outer edge of a 9-inch baking dish and working your way inward, slightly overlapping the slices to create a rose-like shape.

3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, Gruyère, Parmesan, garlic, and 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Pour the cream mixture evenly over the potato slices, making sure to cover all the potatoes.

5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.

6. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

7. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

8. Garnish with additional fresh thyme, if desired.

Notes

For a more rustic presentation, you can skip the rose-shaped arrangement and simply layer the potato slices in the baking dish. This dish can also be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven before serving. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
