Description

This Sumac Onion Salad is a vibrant and tangy side dish that’s bursting with Middle Eastern flavors. The sweet and sour onions, coated in aromatic sumac, make for a delightful and refreshing accompaniment to grilled meats, grain bowls, or pita sandwiches.

Ingredients

– 2 large red onions, thinly sliced

– 2 tablespoons sumac

– 1/4 cup olive oil

– 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine the sliced red onions, sumac, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Toss well to coat the onions evenly.

2. Cover the bowl and let the salad marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour, to allow the flavors to meld.

3. Serve the Sumac Onion Salad immediately, or chill it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

For a milder flavor, use less sumac. You can also add chopped parsley or mint for extra freshness. This salad keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
