Description

Indulge in the captivating aroma and vibrant flavors of this homemade Sweet Onion Fig And Orange Chutney. Crafted with a blend of sweet onions, juicy figs, and zesty oranges, this chutney adds a delightful touch to a variety of dishes.

Ingredients

– 2 large sweet onions, diced

– 1 cup dried figs, chopped

– 1 cup fresh orange juice

– 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

– 1/4 cup brown sugar

– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

– 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1. In a large saucepan, sauté the diced sweet onions over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 8-10 minutes.

2. Add the chopped dried figs, orange juice, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and salt. Stir to combine.

3. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the figs are softened and the chutney has thickened, about 20-25 minutes.

4. Remove the chutney from heat and let it cool slightly. Adjust seasoning to taste, if desired.

5. Transfer the chutney to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 2 weeks, to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

This chutney can be served as a condiment, spread, or topping for meats, cheeses, crackers, or crusty bread. It also makes a wonderful gift! For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
