Ingredients
– 1 pound thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak)
– 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
– 1/2 cup sliced red bell pepper
– 1/4 cup thinly sliced carrots
– 2 tablespoons soy sauce
– 2 tablespoons fish sauce
– 1 tablespoon brown sugar
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
– 12 large lettuce leaves (such as butter or bibb lettuce)
Instructions
– In a medium bowl, combine the beef, soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss to coat the beef evenly.
– Lay a lettuce leaf shiny-side down on a clean work surface. Place a few slices of the marinated beef near the stem end of the leaf. Top with a few Thai basil leaves, sliced red bell pepper, and shredded carrots.
– Fold the sides of the lettuce leaf over the filling, then tightly roll up the leaf from the stem end to the tip, securing it with a toothpick if needed.
– Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make 12 rolls.
– Serve the Thai Basil Beef Rolls with a side of your favorite dipping sauce, such as a sweet chili sauce or a mixture of soy sauce and lime juice.
Notes
For best results, use very thinly sliced beef to ensure the rolls are easy to assemble. You can also experiment with different types of lettuce, such as Boston, Romaine, or iceberg. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your desired level of spiciness.
