Description

Discover the authentic taste of Traditional Greek Honey Cookies (Melomakarona) – a delightful, honey-infused treat that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

– 1/2 cup granulated sugar

– 1 egg

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

– 1 cup honey

– 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, egg, baking powder, cinnamon, and cloves. Mix until a dough forms.

3. Roll the dough into small, oval-shaped balls, about 1-inch in size.

4. Arrange the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.

5. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly golden.

6. While the cookies are baking, heat the honey in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until warm and runny.

7. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately dip each one into the warm honey, coating the tops and sides.

8. Transfer the honey-coated cookies to a wire rack and sprinkle with the chopped walnuts.

9. Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For a slightly different texture, you can let the cookies cool completely before dipping them in the honey. This will create a crunchier exterior. Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
