Ingredients

– 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

– 1 cup buttermilk

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

– 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 cup honey

– 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

– 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

– 4 brioche buns, toasted


Instructions

1. 1. Place the chicken breasts in a shallow dish and pour the buttermilk over them. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours).

2. 2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, panko, cayenne, paprika, garlic powder, and salt.

3. 3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, one piece at a time, and dredge it in the flour mixture, pressing to help the breading adhere.

4. 4. In a large skillet, heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

For extra crispy chicken, let the breaded chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before frying. Adjust the spice level by adding more or less cayenne pepper. The hot honey glaze can be made in advance and reheated before serving.
