Description

Indulge in the ultimate crispy, cheesy goodness with these homemade Deep Fried Pizza Puff Pockets (Panzerotti). Packed with melty mozzarella and pepperoni, these fried dough pockets are the perfect party appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

– 1 pound pizza dough, store-bought or homemade

– 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded

– 1/2 cup pepperoni, diced

– 1 teaspoon dried oregano

– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

1. Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

2. In a bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella cheese, diced pepperoni, oregano, garlic powder, and salt.

3. Scoop a heaping tablespoon of the cheese and pepperoni mixture onto the dough, spacing them out evenly.

4. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, and press the edges to seal.

5. Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven to 350°F.

6. Carefully add the sealed pockets to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

7. Transfer the fried pockets to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

8. Serve the Deep Fried Pizza Puff Pockets (Panzerotti) warm, with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

For a crispier crust, you can freeze the sealed pockets for 30 minutes before frying. The pockets can also be baked at 400°F for 15-18 minutes instead of frying.
